The Zambian Government has warned of stiffer measures to be implemented if bar, tavern and casino owners continue to flout the directives issued to stem further spread of COVID 19.
Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Technical Services Kennedy Malama says these places are super spreaders of the Covid 19 infections.
Dr. Malama says in as much as government is determined to strike a balance between saving lives and the economy, flouting required operating times will not be condoned.
In a COVID-19 statement issued to ZNBC News in Lusaka, Dr. Malama said the county recorded Two Thousand Eight Hundred and Thirty-Seven new confirmed COVID-19 cases out of 10,689 tests conducted.
He said on a sad note the county has continued to record high numbers of COVID-19 deaths with 55 deaths recorded in the last 24hrs.
Dr. Malama said the epidemiological picture is worrisome as families are losing as many as three members to COVID-19 in a short period of time.
He has applauded the Baghoos group of companies of Mazabuka for donating 100 medical oxygen cylinders, which have been distributed to all public Hospitals.
Dr. Malama has appealed to other stakeholders to also come on board and support government fight the pandemic.
He adds that on 2nd July 2021 the county will receive 108,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines to be distributed countrywide for use.
