THE Africa Center for Disease Control and Prevention-Africa (CDC)- says the continent has seen a significant rise of the covid-19 cases under the second wave of the pandemic but Zambia is not yet part of the hotspot on the continent.
Addressing a media briefing in Lusaka today, Africa-CDC Deputy Director Dr Ahmed Ogwell Ouma has since urged Zambia not to relent its adherence to the covid19 preventive measures to avoid a surge in the number of cases under the second wave.
Dr Ouma has indicated that although Zambia is not one of the listed countries for the second wave of the pandemic, the citizens should not be complacent as the country, also has hotspots.
Meanwhile, Dr Ouma says Africa-CDC is coordinating with the manufacturers of the covid19 vaccine to ensure that only appropriate vaccines come into the continent following the launch of the first mass coronavirus pfizer-biontech vaccine by Britain yesterday.
And Dr Ouma says his institution wants to ensure that Africa is part of the entire development process of the vaccine especially the clinical trials.
He says Africa CDC has since identified adequate clinical trial sites on the continent and is currently training trainer of trainers that will help in the administering of the covid-19 vaccine.
