Action Aid Zambia says Gender Based Violence and harassment in the world of work is an urgent global human rights concern that leads to the exploitation and vulnerability of women and other excluded populations and groups.

Commemorating 16 days of activism against Gender Based Violence under the theme ‘Ending Violence in the World of Work”, the Organisation says this limits fair access to the labour market, increases economic insecurity and keeps millions of workers in insecure working conditions.

Quoting statistics from the Zambia Police Service, Organisation Country Director Nalucha Ziba says figures on GBV are on the increase and has projected that in light of COVID19 pandemic, the number will be even higher by the end of the year.

In a statement, Mrs Ziba said her Organisation will be organizing increased advocacy activities that will ensure the rights of girls and women are emphasised when it comes to GBV especially in the workplace and the informal sector.
