MEMBERS of the United Party for National Development (UPND) in Southern Province have expressed displeasure over the appointment of Anthony Bwalya and Mubita Nawa as Spokesperson and Deputy Spokesperson for Hakainde Hichilema.

Scores of UPND members interviewed by Radio Phoenix from Mazabuka complained that Hichilema does not appreciate loyalty in his quest to form government.

“We are shocked that HH continues to look at surnames and the regions people come from to get appointed to visible position,” said Raymond Hamoonga who has been serving as ward executive member since Mr. Hichilema assumed office.

And Margaret Habeenzu wondered how long both Mr. Bwalya and Mr. Mubita have been in the party to deserve such appointment at the expense of other qualified members who have remained loyal to the UPND since its formation.

“Our leader (Hichilema) is showing very bad signs of leadership. Even in Lusaka mayoral elections, we had someone who was more qualified to stand on our ticket but Hichilema went after the tribe of one of the applicants,” said Ms Habeenzu.

And Gilbert Liswaniso, who himself was given a position immediately he defected to UPND from PF, said the youth must speak for themselves and begin to mobilse against such internal decisions by Mr. Hichilema.

“Mubita Nawa is just a newcomer, he has never fought the battles most of us have fought. But he gets the reward. Soon we shall hear that Chellah Tukuta or that talkative woman who wants to stand in Munali are given higher positions. We can not allow for such. Let’s reward our members who have remained loyal irrespective whether they are Tonga,” said Liswaniso.
