President Edgar Lungu has clarified that it is not out of malice that government is tightening covid-19 measures for political parties during campaigns.
President Lungu says the tightened measures are meant to ensure the safety of citizens amidst the surging new covid-19 cases.
Speaking upon arrival in Nyimba District for his 4 days’ working visit in Eastern Province, President Lungu emphasized that election activities are known to be super spreader events and has urged all politicians to adhere to the covid-19 guidelines as they campaign.
The head of state also called on politicians to bear with government in this time as this is in efforts to fight the pandemic.
The Electoral Commission of Zambia suspended the holding of political rallies due to a surge in Covid-19 cases in the country.
