Schools that are implementing the Academic Production Units APU produce learners that have direct experience.
Anoya Zulu Boys Day Secondary School in Chipata which has ventured into fish farming and a vegetable gardening, is among schools implementing the production unit in the province.
Provincial Education Officer Allan Lingambe flagged off the harvesting of the fish at the school on Friday.
Mabel Gershom Phiri was at the school and reports that Anoya Zulu Boys Day Secondary School Head teacher Joyce Phiri Mwiinga says the school started the project last year to supplement government’s efforts of keeping learning institutions running.
And Provincial Education Officer Allan Lingambe says the income generating activity will help provide quality education at the school.
Meanwhile, Chadiza District Education Standards Officer Binwell Dokowe has encouraged other schools to venture into such income generating activities.
If the school has successfully implemented a production unit well, which is a program that integrates learning with the production process, learners will acquire life skills that may help them earn a living in future.
The APU system has been sustained in some schools because of the prospects of gaining additional income by the school.
