During my working visit in Eastern Province, I have visited two plantations to appreciate the challenges that our local farmers are facing.

Yesterday, I visited a Cashew Nut Plantation in Mambwe District, which is owned by Madam Misozi Kadewele, a local farmer.

And today, I toured Macadamia Plantation in Vubwi District and I am extremely happy that several of our farmers are now responding to my government’s call to venture into growing of high value crops such as Cashew Nuts and Tobacco.

I encouraged the owners of these plantations to pass on the knowledge on how best to grow high value crops to local farmers in the country as this will enable them not only to make more money, but to also grow the sector.

My government through the Ministry of Agriculture will support and empower small scale farmers involved in the cultivation of high value crops by putting in place suitable policies that will enable the farmers to thrive and contribute to the economic development of our country.
