The Patriotic Front Government through the Rural Electrification Authority -REA- has developed the Kasanjiku mini hydro power station on the Kasanjiku falls in Mwinilunga district of north western province.

REA Chief Executive Officer Clement Silavwe says the project is in line with the authority’s mandate to provide electricity infrastructure in rural parts.

Mr. Silavwe disclosed that over 12 thousand households within Mwinilunga district and the surrounding areas are earmarked to benefit from the mini hydro power station.

Speaking during the tour of the power station in Mwinilunga district, Mr. Silavwe said the mini hydro is expected to uplift the living standards of the community and the surrounding areas.

He said the supply of electricity to Ntambu community and the surrounding areas within Mwinilunga district is expected to boost economic activities within the district.

Meanwhile Luwi Mission hospital acting administrator, Hellen Banda said the hospital has benefited immensely from the mini hydro power station.

Sister Banda said the hospital is now able to perform various operations as a result of the electricity it receives.

And Chief Ntambu of the Lunda people of Mwinilunga district said the supply of electricity to Ntambu community and the surrounding areas is timely.

He also thanked government for the infrastructure in his chiefdom and the surrounding areas.
