Vice President, Inonge Wina has donated 200 mattresses to Sikongo Boarding Secondary School in Sikongo district, Western province.
Wina has handed over the mattresses, when she visited the school on Tuesday, during which she noted that the newly opened institution has alot of challenges.
And speaking during a meeting with village Headmen at the school, Wina urged parents to ensure children, especially girls, are encouraged to go to school and not forced into early marriages.
Meanwhile, the Vice President said government is determined to open up trade with Angola, using the Sikongo border.
And Minister of Finance, Bwalya Ng’andu, who is in the Vice President’s entourage, said his Ministry will engage the Zambia Revenue Authority to see how they can quickly establish the Sikongo-Angola border post.
Dr NG’ANDU also observed that Sikongo and other surrounding districts have great potential to create wealth.
Meanwhile, speaking on behalf of the village Headmen, Chief Lwambo thanked government for the various developmental projects going on in Sikongo district.
Chief Lwambo added that the people of Sikongo will rally behind the PF Government in the August 12, general elections because of the continued support that the area is receiving from government.
The traditional leader, however, appealed to government to consider working on the Sikongo-Angola road as it a very important economic road.
