President Edgar Chagwa Lungu, says the Government has fully mainstreamed climate change in the Seventh National Pevelopment Plan and other strategic national policies to ensure that it is at the centre of the country’s development agenda.
In a speech read on his by the Minister of National Development Planning Honourable Alexander Chiteme at the media launch of the Zambezi Live Light Festival in Livingstone, the President said Government is also mainstreaming climate change in the provincial and district development plans.
He said that climate change is real and one of the most pressing issues affecting socio-economic development in Zambia.
“Government recognises that climate change is a development challenge and as such, is mainstreaming it in all development processes of the country. This is because mainstreaming is the initial step required to enable climate change take prominence in the development processes of our country,” President Lungu said.
And giving an overview of the Zambezi Live Light Festival, organiser Franco Kapijimpanga called for close collaboration of various stakeholders to ensure that Zambia combats climate change and its effects.
Kapijimpanga commended President Lungu for his leadership in the fight against climate change.
Zambezi Live Light Festival will be held in June 2021.
