Vice President Inonge Wina says the people of North Western Province will remember the first Republican President Dr Kenneth Kaunda for his contribution to the education sector.
Wina says President Kaunda introduced free education as a way of improving the lives of people in the province.
The Vice President has urged the people in the Province to uphold peace adding that the region is symbolic in the fight for independence as President Kaunda was incarcerated in Kabompo District.
Wina has further urged people in the province to remain united and uphold humanitarian values for the nation to develop.
And first-born son of the first President, Lieutenant Colonel Panji Kaunda has called on traditional and Political leaders not to divide the country through tribal lines.
Col. Kaunda has challenged traditional leaders not to use tribe to divide the nation saying this is the only way Dr. Kaunda’s legacy can be honoured.
Meanwhile, traditional leaders in North Western Province have challenged Political leaders to emulate the sacrifices that the First Republican President showed to the country.
Speaking on behalf of the Traditional leaders, Chief Ishima of Zambezi District said political leaders should not focus on enriching themselves but improving the lives of the people.
After the Service the body of the First Republican President was flown back to Lusaka.
