A 76-year-old freedom fighter in Mansa District – Luapula province has described Dr. Kenneth Kaunda as a hero and patriotic soldier who was ready to die for his country.

Peter Chama says Dr. Kaunda and his team sacrificed not only property but their lives to ensure Zambia got independence.

Chama has since advised everyone in the country to guard the peace in honor of the former head of state.

And many Mansa residents who lined up the streets to pay their last respects to Dr. Kaunda on Tuesday, have thanked government for giving the former leader a befitting send off.

Meanwhile, 65-year-old Peter Simpende said he will remember Dr. Kaunda for his effort to unite Zambia while promoting cultural values that ensured there was respect between the young and the old.

And Josephine Musoma, who is a retired nurse and worked under Dr. Kaunda’s rule said she will remember him for provision of free education.
