OPPOSITION Republican Progressive Party (RPP) and Alliance for Democracy and Development (ADD) have defended the decision by their parties to change the name of the Opposition Alliance to UPND Alliance and to adopt Hakainde Hichilema as Presidential candidate for 2021.
RPP President Leslie Chikuse said National Democratic Congress (NDC) Vice President Joseph Akafumba had warned the Alliance to expect such a negative reaction from Chishimba Kambwili.
“The NDC Vice President described Kambwili as a lame duck and he was the one who even proposed changes to name. As you can see from this, he even volunteered to sign first. The Alliance is aware the political journey of Kambwili ended when he was convicted by the court after the complaint by Tayali was proved,” he said.
And ADD President Charles Milupi said it was common knowledge that Kambwili cannot contest any election since he is a convict.
“Some civil society organisations even want to petition Kambwili if we adopted him as President or Vice President. We all agreed Kambwili was an excess bag who overrates himself,” said Milupi.
He said Mr. Kambwili cannot be running the NDC like his own toilet and claimed his own leaders were all agreeable to having Mr Hichilema contest as President and for the Alliance to be renamed.
“Mr Kambwili will be shocked that he is alone in the NDC. That party relies on the UPND and some of us to function. Let him consult his members. He will come out with shame,” said Milupi
