UNITED Party for National Development leader Hakainde Hichilema has come out to support calls by some Civil Societies Organisations who want Electoral Commission of Zambia, Chairman Esau Chulu and his Commissioners to resign.

Earlier in the day, confusion had arisen among Zambia’s vocal NGOs with some alleging ActionAid Zambia is being used as a conduit to fund political activities among UPND-aligned NGOs aimed at discrediting the ECZ Chairperson ahead of the 2021 General Elections.

And now Mr Hichilema has joined the calls by stating that the position of UPND-aligned NGO vindicates the long held view by UPND that ECZ is incompetent and incapable to deliver a transparent, free and fair election that will truly, correctly and respectfully represent the will and aspirations of the Zambian people in the 2021 elections.

“The relentless unilateral position of the ECZ on matters of serious concern regarding the electoral process, without adhering to the consultative spirit with all stakeholders and the Zambian people has already compromised the whole process,” said Hichilema.

Mr Hichilema said it was very clear for all to see that unless Esau Chulu and his incompetent team meet required benchmarks that depict fairness and transparency in the whole process, the 2021 election will be a sham that will compromise peace and stability of this nation.

According to Young African Leaders Initiative, ActionAid Zambia Director Nalucha Ziba and MacDonald Chipenzi want Judge Chulu out of the Commission for doing no wrong but because of his tribe which the duo and UPND are not comfortable with.
