Government has contracted 87 oil marketing companies to improve the supply of petroleum products on the market.

Energy Minister Matthew Nkhuwa says the total quantity of diesel allocated to the suppliers is 1.9 billion litres while 934 million litres is for Petrol.

The 87 OMCS will supply finished petroleum products for a period of six months from January to June 2021 as an interim measure to improve security of supply.

Recently, some parts of the country have experienced a shortage of petroleum products which government has attributed to the shutdown of Indeni refinery since December 2020.

The Minister has assured the nation that once the revolving facility using a letter of credit is concluded, Indeni refinery will be back on track.
