The Foundation for Democratic Process -FODEP- has challenged parliament to ensure the imminent political parties’ law prescribes a specific number of women, youths and the differently abled representation within decision making positions. FODEP Executive Director George Chimembe said that political parties must also emulate the opposition upnd which has given a significant number of positions within the party’s highest governance structure to women. Mr. Chimembe also says the political party’s bill must outline clearly, a significant number of women, youth and the differently abled in line with article 259 of the constitution of Zambia which requires nominations and adoptions to be based on gender equality and inclusiveness. The UPND recently held its elective general assembly with the Party president Hakainde Hichilema announcing that about 29 percent of the positions were taken up by women before appointing a female vice president in Mutale Nalumango.
