South Africa’s Opposition Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Commander in Chief (CIC) Julius Malema has hailed President Edgar Lungu and the ruling Patriotic Front-PF for their decision to ban political rallies.

Malema said during a press briefing on Monday that the move taken by Zambia’s governing party is noble and deserves commendation from anyone who is serious about the fight against Covid-19.

The outspoken EFF leader said by avoiding public rallies which are super spreader events, President Lungu put the lives of Zambians above his political interests.

Malema has since urged African leaders to emulate Zambia’s President, Edgar Lungu’s commitment to the fight against the global pandemic.

“We are encouraged by the manner Zambia, through its President Edgar Lungu has managed to depoliticize Covid-19. At a politically charged moment, their President says I am not going to hold huge public rallies for the sake of my people. This is commendable and must be emulate by leaders on the continent,” said Malema.
