Socialist Party President Fred M’membe has condemned attacks against the people of Eastern and Northern Provinces in Southern Province, alleged to have been orchestrated by UPND leader, Hakainde Hichilema. Dr. M’membe said if reports suggesting that Hichilema instigated the attacks are anything to go, then the UPND leader does not deserve to be on the ballot. Dr. M’membe stated that he has always warned Zambians against Hichilema’s tribal politics adding that the recent happenings in Southern Province are just tip of the iceberg of what was to come if Hichilema was the given an opportunity to be republican president. He said because of his politics to destruction, Hichilema must be confined to the UPND Presidency as that would have little or no impact on the nation. Dr. M’membe said if what happened in Southern Province happened elsewhere against his supporters, Hichilema and his UPND would have been everywhere including outside the country seeking intervention. M’membe advised Hichilema to ‘do unto others what he would like them do unto him. “What happened in Southern Province is uncalled for to say the least. We have always warned Zambians against Hichilema’s style of politics which smacks of tribalism and what happened in Southern Province is just tip of the iceberg what was to come to come if Mr. Hichilema was anywhere near the levers of power. And as Socialist Party we are of the considered view that such a character, risking the lives of innocent citizens through tribal attacks and Covid-19, be removed from the ballot if the reports we are getting are anything to go by,” Dr. M’membe said.
