The Zambian Government has assured the county that the COVID-19 vaccine selection will be done in a transparent manner.

Health Minister Jonas Chanda says his ministry and the Ministry of Finance will be submitting an urgent memo to cabinet that will guide on the acquisition and distribution of the vaccine.

Dr. Chanda says a vaccine from the World Health Organization – WHO – is expected to cover about 40 percent of the country’s population while 4 million doses are expected from the African Union.

He says concerns of efficacy and safety will be tabled.

Dr. Chanda was speaking during the annual Consultative meeting in Lusaka.

He also expressed concern with the surge in malaria cases stating that government will continue to scale up interventions such as outdoor residue spraying.

And British High Commissioner to Zambia Nicolas Wolley in a Speech read on his behalf by British High Commission Head Development Cooperation Steven Beel said his government will continue supporting Zambia’s universal health coverage agenda.
